Why did I fry my radio receiver?

Hi there I'm new at this. My son and I ordered parts to make a Corsair RC plane. We ordered:
-Turnigy Nano-Tech 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack w/XT60 (Voltage: 3S1P / 3 Cell / 11.1V)
-Turnigy TGY-i6 AFHDS Transmitter and 6CH Receiver (Mode 2) (Power: 4.5V~6.6V/<30ma)
We pluged the battery to the Radio receiver and the receiver blew with smoke. :-((

Is it the voltage? The Amperage? or bad parts?

Thanks

Dan
