I am confused with all the different protocols. I have a Japan Radio 9 channel with a Spectrum module. Futaba 12 channel and a Turnigy DS i10 transmitter.
what receivers are they compatible with please?

For Spektrum you'd use DSMX/2. For Futaba you'd use FHSS most of the time. For the Turnigy i10 you can use any AFHDS 2A RX. Let us know if you need further clarification.

I have a JR transmitter nine channel I feel sure it works with Spektrum?????
Depends entirely on what exact JR transmitter nine channel it is...
I have a JR X9303 transmitter I fitted a back light kit from Pro Hobbies. It work great but realigning the display is a drama. I need to get an extension lead from the transmitter mother board to the display so I can move the display to match the contacts. The pins and sockets are not JST they are smaller in pitch and size. Does any one have any ideas please Dennis down under.
They will be Molex of some sort. Check the Molex website, but there are dozens of different types.

I want to buy a HobbyKing 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx V2 (Mode 2) transmitter with receiver and a HobbyKing X-Car 45A Brushed Car ESC. Are the receiver and the ESC compatible?

It's only the radio and receiver compatibility that you need to be worried about.
However, if you are using this for a car, I would be more inclined to use a surface/wheel radio (links below to some of our range)
