X Car 150A ESC BEC Output voltage way too high

today I used my X Car 150A ESC for the first time. Upon providing it with power (all connected correctly) it randomly began to get louder and louder resulting in a bit of smoke and the fan completely shutting down (I suppose the fan somehow just died). The ESC itself still works fine, so I began trying some other things since I had it laying around for like half a year and I suppose there's no hope in getting warranty. HOWEVER, here's the weird part. The BEC output killed one of my parts instantly, and after measuring I found, that the BEC Output gives 22Volts (equivalent to the LiPO output) instead of 6Volts which it should give. Why is that?

Some BEC's are poorly designed insofar as allowing full battery voltage through them when they fail.
